Position Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Location: New York, NY 10019

Shift: Nights, 3x11.5 (34.50 Hours/Week)

Contract Length: 13 weeks with possible extension

Travel Pay Range: $2,700 - $2,900/week

Local Pay: $60 - $70/Hour

Summary

As a Clinical Nurse in the Labor & Delivery Unit, you will provide safe, competent, quality care to patients and their families, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice within a collaborative interdisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care using Relationship Centered Care principles and nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs, applying critical thinking in care management.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members.
  • Manage assignments within the Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
  • Patient Experience
  • Role model Relationship Centered Care practices (e.g., Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding).
  • Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Use evidence-based practices to understand and improve patient perceptions of care.
  • Address patient and family concerns promptly and escalate as needed.
  • Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening in all interactions.
  • Quality and Safety
  • Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice, and nursing research.
  • Follow institutional protocols to escalate safety hazards or gaps.
  • Document nursing practice accurately to support quality and performance initiatives.

Operations:

  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate with management to ensure adequate supplies and staffing.
  • Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
  • Promote cost-effective patient care and resource utilization.
  • Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
  • Maintain thorough and compliant documentation.
  • Professional Development
  • Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Advance clinical competence from novice to expert level.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical decision-making, and effective communication.
  • Encourage lifelong learning, inquiry, and innovation.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Current New York State RN License
  • BLS, ACLS, NRP certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years Labor & Delivery nursing experience
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience overall
  • Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO₄) therapy experience is required.
