Position Description
JOB SUMMARY
Peri-operative RN will function primarily as a circulator, but may be used as a scrub with adequate training. The peri-operative RN provides patient care before, during and after procedure. They have specific surgical experience whose primary job is to function as part of a team, giving guidance to the team while being a patient advocate.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree from accredited nursing program.
- Current Wyoming RN License.
- PALS or ENPC and ACLS or successful completion within 3 months of hire date.
- 1 year OR experience preference for experience with Orthopedics and spine.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Willing to work as part of a team and communicate openly with all member of the team.
- Follows the guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Treats all patients equally adhering to the patient rights policy.
- Promotes a culture of safety for patients and team members through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment.
- Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, and uses evidence based practice to provide exemplary care for our customers.
- Participates in quality improvement activities.
- Attends in-services, meetings and functions as advised.
- Reviews and carries out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner.
- Assesses patient's condition based upon observation, examination, and/or interview, physician's diagnosis, laboratory findings, age-related issues and other pertinent information. Completes assessment in specified time frame. Identifies and consistently recognizes changes in normal and abnormal parameters in the patient's physiological, psychological, cultural, developmental and spiritual needs.
- Implements nursing interventions using evidence based practice to achieve progress toward expected patient outcomes or to stabilize a patient's condition and/or prevent complications.
- Evaluates and documents patients' response to nursing interventions; modifies or revises treatment plans, and uses interdisciplinary resources as needed to provide safe, effective quality patient care.
- Provides patient specific education based on diagnosis, treatment plan and current condition taking into consideration patient and family demographics and learning style.
- Uses professional judgment and critical thinking to prepare, prioritize and execute a plan of care consistent with assessment data. Prepares treatment plans standard of evidence based practice/care. Incorporates the patient's physiological, psychological, cultural, developmental, and spiritual needs into the plan of care. Consistently follows professional patient care standards daily execution of duties.
- While working as part of a team provides direction, delegation, guidance, and demonstrates methods, as necessary, to prevent deviation from established standards to provide consistent patient care for all members of the team.
- Administers medications, start’s intravenous fluids and blood products, performs both complex and routine treatments as prescribed and warranted by patient's condition. Is able to perform all technical skills specific to unit patient population such as; but not limited to Aseptic technique, sterile technique, venipuncture, restraints, etc.
- Promotes good stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care. Collaborates with hospital Departments in order to resolve operational problems.
- Uses appropriate infection control and standard precautions with every customer interaction.
- Upholds the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance.
- Sets an example to all staff in daily activities, remaining flexible, adaptive and able to formulate, accept and implement ideas and changes to improve the constantly changing performance standards for patient care.
- Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.
- Assists in orienting and training new employees, students, and contract personnel. Serves as a resource person all team members.
- May be required to cross-train in other areas within Nursing Services.
- Behave and dress in a professional and courteous manner consistent with the facilities Standards of Behavior.
