Position Description

Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Houston, TX

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–3:00 PM (varies by need)

Travel: Up to 10% between two Houston locations

Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association

Education Required: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN); BSN preferred

License Required: Active Texas RN license

Position Summary:

The Operating Room RN delivers high-quality, age-specific patient care in a multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center (ASC) setting. This role involves collaboration with physicians, anesthesia providers, and clinic staff to ensure safe and competent operative nursing care in accordance with organizational policies and AORN/ASPAN standards. The RN will also support preoperative processes and maintain effective communication with patients, families, and the care team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform nursing assessments, assist with exams and treatments, and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Provide safe and competent care in the operating room, adhering to regulatory and quality standards.
  • Participate in preoperative calls and patient education, ensuring understanding of procedures and care plans.
  • Support quality and safety initiatives by reporting near misses and collaborating on performance improvement.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, MSDS/SDS, and other safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members, advocating for patient needs and preferences.
  • Assist with scheduling, documentation, and coordination of surgical procedures across multiple specialties including plastic surgery, orthopedics, general surgery, urology, and gynecology.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and ongoing training as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of Operating Room RN experience.
  • Experience in Pre-Op, Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), ER, Infusion Therapy, or ASC settings.
  • Familiarity with multi-specialty surgical care.
  • Advanced certifications such as ACLS and PALS are a plus.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to navigate EMR systems.
