Position Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess immediate and ongoing patient care needs, including physical, psychosocial, and spiritual.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans with attention to patient teaching and discharge planning.
  • Deliver and oversee direct patient care; supervise LPNs, nursing attendants, technicians, and other assigned staff.
  • Monitor, evaluate, document, and communicate patient responses to illness, therapies, and interventions.
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring timely interventions and continuity of treatment.
  • Integrate age-specific care needs into patient treatment plans (pediatric, adult, geriatric).
  • Assume accountability for nursing interventions, outcomes, and patient safety.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives, staff orientation, and professional development activities.
  • Serve as a resource for colleagues, student nurses, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Support safe, therapeutic environments and demonstrate effective communication under stressful situations.

Other Responsibilities

  • Act as charge nurse when delegated.
  • Provide coverage for colleagues and assist in other units when required.
  • Participate in research, committees, pilot projects, and community/professional organizations.
  • Maintain continuing education, pursue advanced nursing degrees/certifications, and remain current in ICU practice.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize electronic medical records and relevant healthcare systems.
  • Competence in CRRT machine operation, ventilators, tracheostomy/gastrostomy tubes, A-lines, and medication titration.
  • Team-oriented with proven ability to manage stressful and high-acuity situations.

Education & Requirements

  • Required:
  • BSN degree.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a Level I or II Trauma Center.
  • Certifications: TCAR, BLS, ACLS, PALS, AHA Stroke Certification.
  • Preferred:
  • CCRN, CRRT, or TCRN certifications.
