Overview
The Director of Nursing Experiential Education plays a vital role in fostering partnerships and coordinating experiential learning opportunities for students within the Department of Nursing and the broader School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SNHS). This position works closely with students, faculty, and colleagues across the school, as well as clinical leadership teams from healthcare organizations throughout Rhode Island, the greater New England region, and internationally. Serving as the primary point of contact for the logistical coordination of global and experiential education programs, this role also oversees cultural and mission-driven immersion experiences offered by the Department of Nursing.

Lead an innovative portfolio of experiential education programs in the Department of Nursing. Responsibilities include overseeing the BSN internship program with student placements and faculty coordination, managing the CNA program aligned with state certification, and directing global education and cultural immersion initiatives. The role also supports community-based nursing experiences, collaborating closely with faculty and clinical partners to deliver high-quality, practical learning opportunities that prepare nursing students for professional success.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the internship required experience of all juniors and seniors enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in nursing program. The course is offered during the fall, spring, and summer terms and includes one-on-one student-faculty mentored and small group experiences at hospitals and other clinical sites located throughout the Rhode Island, New England region, and nationwide. Serve as the main point of contact and resource for all BSN students during their internship to ensure learning objectives are met. Prepare and arrange for all logistical needs of students to enroll in the required nursing internship course and coordinate placement with all affiliated clinical faculty (e.g., staff nurses, Chief Nursing Officer, etc.) nationwide. Work in concert with the department of Nursing administrative team and faculty to arrange placements and maintain all clinical contact and contract information for nursing internships, organize and maintain essential student health records related to the internship, ensure for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needs of clinical internships facilities, arrange orientation and on-boarding for all adjunct clinical internship faculty, schedule onsite or remote internships site visits each semester, and lead student seminars and administer all clinical internship evaluations including collect and report evaluation findings for CCNE accreditation.
- Assume the primary leadership role for planning, implementing, and assessing the rapidly expanding Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program for first- and second-year nursing students. Develop and implement all educational training as part of the Rhode Island State standards leading to CNA certification/licensure. Place all students participating in the CNA program into paid employment positions at the participating partnering hospitals and overseeing the program during the summer experience, including communications and logistical planning with external practice partners and coordinating with various campus divisions.
- Lead the planning, preparation, and successful execution of all global education and cultural immersion programs for nursing students and faculty. Coordinate with the Center for Global Education office for selected nursing study abroad programs and SNHS specific initiatives such as the Lourdes pilgrimage and Dominican Health Care Ministry experiential programs.
- Coordinate and manage a variety of curricular and co-curricular community-based student nursing experiences including those related to the Community Health Nursing course and volunteer activities.
