We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our organization on a part-time basis. Our residents are part of an international Catholic community of women religious who work hard to further the community’s mission of pursuing peace through justice. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide bedside care.
  • Polypharmacy management and medicine reconciliations
  • Take vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration).
  • Assist with Sisters’ comfort.
  • Prepare and administer pharmacy orders.
  • Collect samples and prepare lab paperwork.
  • Provide wound care.
  • Communicates with attending physicians as necessary.
  • Carries out the directives of the nurse manager, such as providing oversight for staff when nurse manager is not on shift.
  • Uses the computer for charting, email, and making medical documents in MS Office.
  • On call off hours and on weekends/holidays as scheduled.
  • Oversee caregivers carrying out Nurse Delegated duties.
  • Communicate status of Sister’s well-being per their request with family members and health care representatives.
  • Monitoring and managing chronic conditions common in older adults (for example, diabetes, CHF, COPD, arthritis, cognitive decline).
  • Conduct cognitive screening
  • Educate caregivers on safe care practices.
  • Accompany Sisters to hospital until the sister on call for Hospital Presence can arrive.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

Values:  This position must be held by an individual who shares the values of peace and justice for the poor and    who is committed to learning about, supporting, and respecting those in the vowed life of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace.  There is no other background that can substitute for this requirement.

Education:   This position requires a nursing degree from an accredited college or university in the State of Washington, as well as a valid RN license through the state of Washington.  It also requires up-to-date first aid and CPR certification, passing a baseline TB test upon hiring, and a food handlers permit.   There is no other background that can substitute for this requirement.

Experience:   This position requires five years of nursing experience, specializing in Alzheimer’s and/or dementia nursing experience.  Other background that may substitute for this requirement is listed below.

Or other background demonstrating application of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of professional nursing practices and protocols.
  • Advanced ability to make nursing assessments and respond appropriately based on patient and medical directives.
  • Excellent bedside manner and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain treatments and conditions to Sisters.
  • Working knowledge of current health care laws and regulations.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English and ability to read, write and understand and follow directions provided for and from the Sisters.
  • Ability to use computer for charting, email, and making medical documents in MS Office.
  • Willingness to receive continued training and education.
  • Comfortable working in a faith-based setting with a religious community.
  • Deep respect for aging and end-of-life transitions.
  • Strong communication with cognitively impaired or hearing-impaired patients
  • Ability to build trust with older adults and their families.

 

License/Certification: Current RN License issued by the state of Washington. Current and valid driver’s license.
