Job Description:

Nursing Assistant - Same Day Surgery

Full-Time 11a - 7:30p

The Nursing Assistant performs designated tasks in the provision of age-appropriate care for patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.

• Accurately takes vital signs as directed by Registered Nurse.

• Performs 12 lead EKGs on patients.

• Transports patients to and from procedures with side rails up.

• Verifies patient identity using two patient identifiers (name and DOB) prior to transport.

• Demonstrates ability to perform phlebotomy venipuncture using two patient identifiers and appropriate handling of specimens.

• Delivers specimens to appropriate lab department and ensures specimen is labeled appropriately as needed.

• Retrieves blood/tissue from lab as requested.

• Performs patient care equipment cleaning after each use and documents weekly per policy.

• Appropriately gives tap water enemas to patients under direction of the Registered Nurse.

• Assists patients with personal hygiene as directed by Registered Nurse.

• Obtains stocks and/or transports supplies, including medications, kits and IV fluids as directed by the RN.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire.
