Position Description

Job Title: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) - Adult Med/Surg - Level I Trauma

Location: Upstate University Hospital, 750 E Adams St, Syracuse, NY 13210

Employment Type: Full-Time Travel Contract (11/7 to 2/11)

Overview: Join a Premier Academic Trauma Center

We are seeking highly experienced Day Shift Med/Surg Travel Nurses to join a high-acuity team at Upstate University Hospital, the region’s only Level I Trauma Center and a Certified Burn and Stroke Center. This is a demanding, fast-paced opportunity for skilled acute care nurses comfortable working in a large, complex academic medical environment.

Schedule & Contract Details

  • Unit: Adult Medical/Surgical (supporting 11 Med/Surg Units)
  • Shift: Day Shift (Typically 3x12s or similar schedule).
  • Schedule: Every other weekend and some holidays required.
  • Duration: Short-term, high-demand contract from November 7th to February 11th.
  • Note: Due to the critical nature of the contract, requests for excessive PTO or set schedules will not be approved.

Essential Requirements (Please Read Carefully)

  • Experience: Minimum 1.5 years of recent acute care experience (within the past 2 years) in a facility of similar size, or a Level 1 or Level 2 trauma hospital.
  • Licensure: Current New York State RN license.
  • Clinical Skills (Mandatory): Must be able to start IVs, draw labs, and monitor telemetry with minimal orientation or supervision.
  • Compliance: Current BLS certification (or ability to obtain). No suspended licenses or professional liability claims.

Core Duties

  • Perform the majority of patient care skills with minimal supervision.
  • Conduct strong nursing assessments and deliver evidence-based care in an acute environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality patient outcomes.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience with EPIC EMR is strongly preferred.
