- Scheduled 40 hours and will be downsized based on procedural schedule
Core Clinical Responsibilities
- Apply the nursing process within the framework of Relationship-Based Care to create a healing environment.
- Formulate daily goals and individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients.
- Demonstrate critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues during patient care.
- Communicate patient conditions effectively to other care providers and recommend changes in care plans and unit practices.
- Ensure comprehensive and accurate patient documentation to support continuity of care.
- Incorporate national professional standards and organizational goals to enhance patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
- Apply adult learning principles (and pediatric principles if applicable) in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff.
- Provide appropriate education to patients and families to support care transitions and recovery.
- Support the development of students and new staff; may serve as a preceptor.
- Foster continuous learning by seeking feedback and refining teaching practices.
- Participate in unit-specific quality improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and communicate them to colleagues and management.
- Use research and evidence-based practice to enhance clinical care.
- Discuss relevant research and quality improvement opportunities during multidisciplinary rounds.
- Influence patient care plans through evidence-based recommendations.
- Actively engage in shared governance and unit goal setting.
- Support change initiatives to improve care quality and the practice environment.
- Collaborate with care team members to meet patient needs and improve outcomes.
- Participate in activities that enhance the professional practice environment.
- Perform duties in accordance with system-wide competencies and standards.
- Carry out other assigned tasks as needed.
- Understanding principles of growth and development across the lifespan
- Assessing and interpreting patient data to identify age-specific needs
- Delivering care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
- 0-2 years of experience required; 2+ years of experience strongly preferred
- BSN preferred
- Ability to build and maintain positive, caring relationships with staff, departments, patients, and families
- Capable of working effectively in complex environments with shifting priorities and specialized equipment
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning
- Mobility and manual visual dexterity
- Licensure: Current RN license in the facility’s state or a compact state under the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)
- Certification: UPMC-approved national certification preferred
- CPR: Must meet AHA standards with both didactic and skills demonstration components within 30 days of hire
- Graduate Nurses:
- Must pass licensure exam within 6 months of hire or within 1 year of graduation (whichever comes first)
- Temporary permits are valid for 1 year from graduation, not from issue date
- Failure to meet exam deadline may result in termination or demotion at the BU’s discretion
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
- Act 34 Clearance
