Position Description

Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor Imaging Nursing provides nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic, therapeutic non-invasive or invasive procedures in the Diagnostic Imaging Services Department in accordance with hospital and department established policies and physician orders. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the geriatric, adult, and adolescent patient. Responsibilities

Recognizes and reports deviations from patient or established norms. Identifies deviations from established norms not related to chief patient’s complaints. Reports patient’s responses to treatment(s), and documents nursing interventions. Provides basic comfort and support according to patient needs. Fosters patient(s) and family participation in achieving optimum level of patient’s functioning and performing activities of daily living. Sets priorities in individual patient’s assignments. Seeks guidance and resources, when necessary, in management of patient care. Identifies and assesses emergency situations. Initiates appropriate response and intervention. Plans for potential needs during emergency situations. Maintains knowledge of contemporary, professional nursing practice within the legal framework of the Rhode Island Nurse Practice Act. Attends training and retraining, as needed, to maintain current knowledge of hospital and patient care practices and procedures. Utilizes established protocols and guidelines and collaborates with the health team to facilitate therapeutic interventions and attainment of desired patient outcomes. Follows all documentation guidelines per policy and procedure. Performs assessments and collection of data by interviewing, record reviewing, and documentation in the electronic medical record. Assesses and monitors patient's condition including vital signs, monitoring and recognition of EKG changes, and initiates appropriate nursing interventions. Integrates focused physical assessment with nursing assessment, and record review in developing a comprehensive and individualized plan of care. Defines nursing diagnoses and expected patient outcomes. Implements nursing intervention according to plan of care. Evaluates interventions based on attainment of patient outcomes. Modifies plan of care, as necessary. Administers contrast material, conscious sedation and monitors patients as appropriate. Recognizes, documents, and assists in the treatment of contrast reactions. Intervenes in emergency situations. Prioritizes patient needs and functions as patient advocate. Assesses the biological, psychological, sociological and cultural needs of the patient and family. Provides healthcare instruction and procedural information to patients and families. Assists with preparation and distributes patient education materials. Assists with compilation of nursing Quality Assurance Activities. Maintains equipment, including emergency equipment, and supplies according to established protocols and procedures. May assist with ordering of supplies and equipment. Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives. May assist with the development of policies and procedures. Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Assists with the orientation of nurses, physicians, technologists and students. Acts as a resource for nursing, medical and radiology staff. Practices cost containment. Assists with the development and implementation of research projects. Participates in hospital, nursing and radiology committees by attending meetings to facilitate patient care management. Provides functional guidance and direction to CNA's, and other licensed personnel, as required. May assume shift charge responsibility to include maintaining an overview of unit activities and delegating work responsibilities with equitable assignments. Interacts with other health care professionals to maintain continuity of quality patient care. Functions in a cooperative and productive manner in the work environment. Takes calls according to Diagnostic Imaging Services Department call policy. Maintains and enhances professional expertise through appropriate educational opportunities and literature. Demonstrates self-direction in maintaining and advancing clinical and professional competency. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of the aging process, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. Performs other related duties, as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

Basic Knowledge

Graduate of a Baccalaureate School of Nursing preferred, with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island. Understanding the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Rhode Island. Current BLS and ACLS Certifications required.

Experience

At least two years of RN experience in an acute hospital setting with one year ICU-level critical care experience within the past two years or two years ED-trauma experience within the past two years preferred. Interventional Radiology Nurse or Procedural Nurse experience is desirable.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians' offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use of safety equipment and protective clothing.Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. Subject to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.

Pay Range

$35.00-$70.00
