Position Description

The School of Business and Professional Studies at Truman State University seeks applicants for appointment to one of the following to begin August 2026: (1) Tenure- track, Assistant Professor of Nursing/Nursing Simulation Coordinator; (2) Non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing/Nursing Simulation Coordinator; (3) Non-tenure-track Instructor in Nursing/Nursing Simulation Coordinator, term appointment.This position is a full-time, nine-month appointment located on Truman’s campus in Kirksville, Missouri. In addition to the duties and responsibilities described below, faculty are expected to contribute to the campus culture of the Liberal Arts and Sciences and interdisciplinarity by teaching in the University’s core curriculum (The Dialogues) and contributing to interdisciplinary initiatives and coursework as needed.Non-tenure-track, term Assistant Professor or Instructor appointments are subject to annual renewal. The initial term of the appointment is three years. Additional three-year terms may continue indefinitely based on the needs and budget of the university and positive performance review.
Position DescriptionThe Truman State University nursing program invites applications for a full-time tenure-track or non-tenure-track nurse faculty position to teach students in the Nursing Simulation Center. The role involves teaching clinical simulation to undergraduate nursing students in Assessment and Fundamentals, Adult Health, Pediatrics, Maternal/Neonatal, and Critical Care nursing. Responsibilities include equipment inventory management, coordinating the planning, preparation/maintenance of simulation equipment, and design of simulation and clinical lab experiences based on evidence-based practice guidelines. The Simulation Coordinator will work with the nursing faculty to develop simulation scenarios/curricula to bring nursing simulation-based activities that reflect the identified AACN practice-ready competency-based behaviors. The Simulation Coordinator will work collaboratively with faculty and students in the teaching of clinical skills and providing feedback on performance. The educator will create a lab environment that replicates real clinical settings, promotes active learning and problem-solving skills, critical thinking, effective communication, and the development of the skills and confidence needed to deliver safe patient care.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid State of Missouri Professional Nurse License
  • Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution
  • Recent classroom or clinical teaching experience
  • Five (5) years of experience in clinical nursing practice
  • BLS certified
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with Simulation technologies (Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Hi-fidelity simulators, monitors)
  • Proficient in computer/simulation software and/or computer/audio/video training
  • Applicants seeking a tenure-track appointment will be required to demonstrate the ability to conduct research and scholarly work, preferably involving undergraduate students, that can lead to publication and/or presentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree (Earned or In Progress)
  • Three (3) years of recent teaching experience in simulation technology, standardized patient training, and/or related experience in an education/training environment
  • Supervisory experience of students and other assistive personnel
  • Experience in development and coordination of educational programs
  • Acute care experience
  • Proficient in computer/simulation software and/or computer/audio/video training systems
  • Experience with Simulation technologies (Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Hi- fidelity simulators, monitors)
  • Experience with Brightspace and other educational platforms
  • Simulation certification (CHSE, INACSL/ISEP)
