Are you ready to gain hands-on experience and build confidence in a real-world clinical setting? WakeMed’s Nursing Externship Program offers you the chance to work alongside experienced Registered Nurses while delivering exceptional care to patients and families.

Program Dates: May 18, 2026 – July 17, 2026

This is your opportunity to immerse yourself in a supportive environment and prepare for your future nursing role!

As an Extern, you’ll play an important role in supporting our Patient & Family Centered Care (PFCC) model, which focuses on:

• Dignity & Respect: Listening to and honoring patient and family perspectives.
• Information Sharing: Communicating clearly and openly to empower patients and families.
• Participation: Encouraging involvement in care and decision-making.
• Collaboration: Working as a team to provide safe, compassionate care.

Requirements:

• Must not be a current WakeMed employee
• Must be a rising senior in an accredited nursing program
• Must be listed as a North Carolina Nurse Aide I or II
• Must have a strong desire to learn
