Position Description

T he Texas General Land Office is seeking a Nurse IV within the Veterans Land Board Department of the agency.

The Nurse IV performs highly advanced and/or (senior-level) nursing work. Work involves planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating nursing activities and providing for the care and treatment of patients. Work may include serving as a resource on nursing practices and education programs by performing consultative and administrative work. May assign and/or supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources.

Your Contributions To The GLO Will Be

  • Oversees the quality of care for the TSVH and reports concerns.Evaluates nursing services through the analysis of statistical and performance evaluation reports. Conducts inspections, surveys, and investigations of TSVH to determine compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, rules, and contractual obligations; prepares reports of findings and recommendations. Conducts site visits to verify correction of previously cited regulatory violations.
  • Plans, develops, implements, interprets, and monitors program operations, policies, and procedures. Assists in planning, developing, and coordinating nursing activities. Monitors in-service training and other educational programs of the TSVH.Provides consultation, training, and technical assistance to agency staff, the medical community, and other organizations.
  • Reviews medical records and resident assessments to determine compliance with policies and procedures, correctness of assessment, and quality of service.
  • Conducts field investigations, epidemiological studies, and special research projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in nursing, or graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Five years of experience as a nurse with at least two years of experience in the following: nursing work in a skilled nursing long-term care facility, long-term acute care hospital, hospice, or as a surveyor/monitor for a state nursing home regulatory agency.
  • The selected applicant must be willing to travel regularly to Veterans Homes throughout the state of Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Long-term care management experience.
  • Medicare and Medicaid experience.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the employee to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (moving around the worksite) is routinely required to carry out some duties. This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/ customer contact and communication. It requires the ability to move and position oneself as needed for filing and similar routine office duties. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Ability to read printed materials and computer screens. The individual must be able to move and transport records, documents, boxes, and all related information and materials, weighing up to 20 pounds when required.
