Position Summary

The Nurse Advice Line (NAL) RN Directs the nursing care, education, and information dissemination to the SCI and BI communities; coordinates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team; coordinates the specific needs of the adolescent, adult and geriatric clients who contact the advice line; accountable for responsibilities related to nursing practice for all nursing team members; provides leadership for quality and cost-effectiveness of care at the team level.

Position Requirements

  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations: Maintain licenses as a Registered Nurse in all 50 States and the District of Columbia. BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider and specialty certification (CRRN or CNRN) is required, or to test for certification during the next testing cycle is required.
  • Education: Graduate of a CCNE or NLNAC accredited school of nursing (preferred). Graduation of a nursing program from an accredited college or university is required. BSN strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 Years of RN experience in direct patient care, with a minimum of 2 of the 5 years of RN experience being in spinal cord injury or brain injury. Current multi-state compact Colorado RN license; eligible for licensure in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
  • Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and procedures in neuroscience and acute Med/Surg in the rehabilitation setting strongly preferred. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, including listening and conflict resolution. Excellent organization and customer service skills. Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities and prioritize and schedule accordingly while meeting established deadlines. Must have the ability to handle highly confidential information. Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and groups. Must be able to successfully and effectively communicate with a variety of personnel. The ability to work independently with limited supervision. Able to maintain a high degree of accuracy, dependability, and strong attention to detail both mechanically and technically. Possess above average problem-solving skills, judgment, and flexibility. Must have above-average computer skills and be able to utilize the computer database and systems to assess, educate, and document all information in an accurate and efficient manner.


Essential Functions

  • Practices according to the ANA Code of Ethics and within the scope of an RN according to the Colorado Nurse Practice Act and all other Nurse Practice Acts for states with individual licenses.
  • Demonstrate competency in time management, organization, prioritization & critical thinking by planning and organizing work assignments and prioritizing the specific needs of the patients.
  • Utilize a consistent, patient-focused care approach to meet patient needs and demonstrate initiatives to utilize a holistic approach to identify patient needs. Utilize analytical skills and advanced assessment skills necessary to assess a patient’s condition and utilize that data through the nursing process and clinical judgment to provide comprehensive information to the patient/family member.
  • Set appropriate priorities for diverse patient care needs in the community.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of Craig Hospital infrastructure, programs and services.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge and use of the nursing process to develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for each call to the advice line.
  • Precept/mentor new staff or nursing students as requested.
  • Respect the patient’s privacy and confidentiality with every interaction as per HIPAA Guidelines.
  • Prepare and maintain a record of conversations and recommendations given. Document information clearly and completely utilizing correct forms and in a timely manner according to hospital policy.
  • Use Standards of Care and hospital policies/procedures to guide practice.
  • Educate and prepare the patient/family for future self-management by facilitating patient movement from passive to an active partnership and, eventually, to a personal self-care expert.
  • Assist other staff members as requested.

Salary Range: $35.17/ Hour — $50.64/ Hour + 18% Per-Diem Differential
