Job Description And Duties

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-Time vacancy to the Registered Nurse (RN) (Safety) classification. This vacancy exists in the Medical Services Department, under the direction of the Supervising Registered Nurse and Medical Services Administrator.

The incumbent will perform nursing assessments, administer medications and treatments, complete vital signs and specimen collection, support medical/surgical consultations, document clinical findings, and monitor patients during unit routines and therapeutic activities. The RN provides pre-/post-procedure care, prepares patients for internal and external referrals, and maintains accurate electronic health records. The RN responds to medical and psychiatric emergencies, applies crisis-intervention skills, participates in alarms and disaster plans, and maintains competency in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Basic Life Support, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support for high-risk procedures such as Electroconvulsive Therapy.

Responsibilities also include operating specialty clinic equipment such as pulmonary function devices, autorefractors, audiometric devices, bladder scanners, EKG/Holter monitors, centrifuges, microscopes, CPAP/BiPAP units, nebulizers, IV pumps, and other clinic tools. The RN ensures compliance with infection-control standards, maintains a clean and safe environment, demonstrates cultural humility, protects confidential information, and upholds professional boundaries.
