Required
- Current New Jersey RN license
- ASN or Nursing Diploma (Must agree to complete BSN within 5 years of hire date)
- BLS from the American Heart Association
- OCN preferred, required to obtain OCN certification or receive 12 continuing education credits in oncology specialty on an annual basis
- BSN
- A minimum of 4 years recent experience in Outpatient Oncology nursing preferred
- Identifies patient problems, makes appropriate referrals, sets achievable goals and develops individualized plan of care
- Evaluates and reassess patient s progress toward goal attainment along with members of the interdisciplinary team
- Provides direct and indirect patient care activities safely and competently according to identified standards, polices, procedures and within scope of role
- Administers medications, drug therapy and blood administration safely and accurately, aware of special precautions when disposing of hazardous materials,
- Documents response to pain management and nursing interventions,
- Demonstrates expertise in the access, maintenance and care of central venous access devices CVADs and in performing venipuncture skills
- Documentation is patient specific and problem focused; charts entries accurate
- Knowledge regarding chemotherapy drugs, acute and chronic side effects and its methods of prevention, principle therapeutic use, and risks of extravasations
- Prepares patients for procedures provides adequate explanations and time for questions,
- Educates patients and families to meet identified learning needs
- Facilities timely flow of patients through unit and makes every effort to accommodate patients in a timely manner
- Assists with orientation, education and preempting for new employees for CVAD maintenance and chemotherapy certification
- Follows PINCH protocol
- Interprets and utilizes clinical data in the plan of care
- Assesses patient for the potential risk factors
- Responds effectively in an emergency situation so that the patient's immediate needs are addressed
- Assesses learning needs, readiness to learn and actual or potential barriers to learning
- Communicates and documents change in the patient s condition to all appropriate individuals
- Recognized as an advocate of teamwork
- Delegates work to the care team
- Collaborates with other interdisciplinary team members to affect positive patient outcomes
- Effectively interacts with providers and provides complete information when change in condition
- Medication reconciliation
- Recognizes and integrates patient special needs and individualizes care
- Priorities and organizes work assignment and adjust priorities based on changing situations
- Consults and refers to other health care professionals
- Assumes accountability for managing the delivery of patient care
- Refers ethical concerns to the appropriate resources
- Demonstrates skill in problem-solving and priority recognition
- Adheres to documentation and policy as it related to regulatory compliance, CMS, The Joint Commission, Department of Health
- Utilizes effective time management skills to complete work within a predetermined time frame
- Acts as a patient advocate and upholds patient's rights
- Communicates transfer of patient responsibility shift report guided by the plan of care or any other pertinent documents, SBAR walking shift report
- Is flexible and responsive toward needs of department and assist in every way to meet patient care requirements
- Volunteer at RWJBH or Cancer Center community health event to support the hospital and/or service line
- Appropriately uses barcode scanner for patient specimens and performs proper labeling of patient s specimens
- Responds to EPIC chats/in basket merstands, demonstrates and models the RWJBH core values
- Acts as a role model for corporate integrity, customer service and improved quality,
- Recognized as an advocate for teamwork
