Position Description

Travel Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (RN – Med Surg)

We are seeking an experienced Travel Med Surg RN who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. In this role, you'll serve as a clinical leader, using the nursing process to support positive patient outcomes while collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams.

Position Overview

The Med Surg RN provides and coordinates patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics, and Scope & Standards of Practice. This role requires strong clinical judgment, leadership skills, and a commitment to professionalism, safety, and compassionate care for diverse patient populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, effective patient care utilizing the nursing process
  • Assess patient and family learning needs and provide appropriate education
  • Delegate and coordinate care with licensed and ancillary staff
  • Collaborate as a leader and partner within the interdisciplinary team
  • Use data and clinical insight to evaluate outcomes and promote improvements
  • Support unit and departmental goals, patient satisfaction, and staff morale
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Required: RN Diploma
  • Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Med Surg experience

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active RN license in the state of Louisiana or compact state license
  • Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • Preferred: Specialty certification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong clinical and critical-thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic health records
  • Effective time management and organizational abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Physical & Work Environment

  • Heavy work requirements, including lifting up to 50–100 lbs occasionally
  • Frequent standing, walking, pushing, and pulling
  • Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases
  • Possible exposure to hazardous medications and waste
