Position Description

Hours: 8am - 4:30 pm, occasional closing shifts that may extend past 4:30 pm.

This position helps support 2 office locations in Erie, PA, on East 2nd and Peach Streets.

The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse responsible for setting care standards and ensuring high-quality nursing care. They manage patient care for a group of patients and their families, using independent judgment and collaborating with the care team. This role involves maintaining collaborative relationships with physicians, healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve optimal outcomes. The Professional Staff Nurse is committed to the community and the nursing profession.

Responsibilities:

  • Use the nursing process within Relationship-Based Care to create a healing environment, set care goals, and address patients' clinical, social, and emotional needs.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts, identifying opportunities for improvement and enhancing patient satisfaction and care.
  • Apply evidence-based practices to improve clinical care and patient outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with the care team and document patient information clearly.
  • Build productive relationships with colleagues and patients, promoting teamwork, accountability, and work-life balance.
  • Identify safety hazards and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Take responsibility for professional development, engage in unit-based goal setting, and support care team needs.
  • Adapt to change and contribute to improving patient care and the practice environment.
  • Apply adult learning principles in patient and family education, and support the development of students, new staff, and colleagues through mentorship and feedback.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
  • Must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
  • Minimum six months experience preferred.
  • BSN preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • UPMC approved national certification preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
