Position Description

We are seeking a Sr. Clinical Nurse who will work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary health team, including the county health departments throughout the state of Maryland, to provide quality HIV diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and management services. The Sr. Clinical Nurse will triage chronic and acute illness, appropriately communicate results to medical providers, initiate orders of diagnostic procedures and tests, institute treatment and referrals, and provide patient education. These duties are performed in collaboration with the medical providers of the AIDS Service and the JHU County Program. The clinician will see patients in satellite clinics located within the county health department system and other satellite sites. Position will participate in divisional research activities, initiate the county AIDS program, and provide direction and supervision to less senior nursing staff.

Specific Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead nurse for county program.
  • Functions autonomously as needed to train and assist new staff in the county program.
  • Support the second clinical nurse in the absence of the second nurse, assumes responsibility for all clinics. When necessary and appropriate, in the absence of a provider but with consultation of the on-call provider, sees patients for continuity care visits in health department clinics.
  • Attend off-site clinics at the county health departments as scheduled.
  • Coordinate care for patients between care sites, primary care provider, Johns Hopkins provider, and any outside institutions.
  • Serve as primary nurse to county program providers both in the Moore clinic, health departments, and satellite sites.
  • Maintain contact with nurses and other personnel in county health departments and all outpatient centers where care is provided by this program.
  • Triage patient calls and determine need for medical assessment.
  • Assess lab results and implement intervention in consultation with the primary provider.
  • Triage calls from outside institutions, the JHH emergency department, the infectious disease fellow, and other health providers. Determine and implement follow-up plans.
  • Perform vital signs, TB tests, and administer vaccines as ordered.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of vaccines at the Howard County clinic.
  • Provide phlebotomy as needed.
  • Assist administrative assistant in scheduling clients for consult appointments. Follow up with clients who miss appointments.
  • Develop and coordinate the biennial county program nurse case manager HIV update.
  • When clinic schedules permit, one day a week, participate in data collection and entry into the Excel program; assist in maintaining excellent and accurate data for Ryan white grant purposes.
  • At the request of the supervisor, attend mandatory Ryan white meetings.
  • Lead nurse for epic training and updates.
  • When appropriate, assist the supervisor in developing new projects within the county program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or the state where practicing. Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline required.
  • Require a minimum of two years of related nursing experience, with additional experience preferred.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $75,100 - $131,700 Annually ($92,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
