Job Description

The Public Health Tuberculosis Nurse / Clinical Nurse plays a vital role in protecting the health of Jackson County by preventing, identifying, treating, and controlling tuberculosis. This position provides direct patient care, case management, consultation, and community education in alignment with Missouri DHSS and CDC guidelines.

You’ll work with a high level of independence while collaborating closely with healthcare providers, laboratories, and community partners to reduce TB risk and keep residents safe. In addition to TB-related responsibilities, this role also supports the immunization clinic, delivering hands-on clinical nursing care.

This position may require wearing respiratory protection and other PPE in high-risk environments, lifting up to 50 pounds during clinic or community activities, and climbing stairs to access clients in their homes.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide comprehensive TB nursing services, including assessment, treatment support, education, and follow-up
  • Manage TB cases using evidence-based nursing practices and public health guidelines
  • Deliver direct patient care in the immunization clinic
  • Collaborate with patients, families, healthcare providers, laboratories, and community partners
  • Present health information clearly to individuals, groups, and community audiences
  • Promote quality improvement, patient safety, cultural responsiveness, and compassionate care
  • Maintain compliance with professional standards, licensing requirements, and organizational policies

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in public health, nursing, epidemiology, or a closely related field
  • Current Missouri license as a Registered Nurse
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present information to large audiences
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent specialty degree
  • Three or more years of nursing experience
  • RN specialty certification
  • Knowledge and experience in epidemiology principles and application
  • Experience with public health data and reporting systems such as ShowMeCare, Right Fax, X-Sentinel, Acrobat 2020, and State Public Health Lab systems (OpenELIS)
