Position Description

A Brief Overview
Provides for and delivers health care and wellness services, within the scope of the license of a registered nurse, to associates to enhance morale, health and productivity. Develops, coordinates and conducts health education programs for associates to promote safety in the workplace to help associates achieve optimal health and productivity levels. Provides first-aid services and medical treatment for associates in the Home Office. Organizes wellness clinics including general health fairs and various health screenings. Involved in OSHA compliance and workers' compensation reporting. Works with minimal supervision and is responsible to make an established range of decisions, escalating to Manager when necessary and updates Manager on a regular basis.


What you will do

  • Develops and delivers nursing services to comply with federal and state regulations and Corporate Health Service policies.
  • Provides first aid and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses to associates with medical emergencies. Provides initial assessment of occupational injuries, illnesses and exposures and may treat or refer for further evaluation as necessary in accordance with clinical guidelines, protocols and license. Assists associates in identifying the need for seeking outside medical assistance and to meet physical and emotional needs.
  • Plans, evaluates and implements health promotion and education programs for associates while recognizing the need for cost effectiveness. Develops a plan of nursing care based on identified needs and problems, and assists with the development of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention and health promotion strategies to optimize health and prevent injuries and illnesses.
  • Identifies, sources and identifies qualified medical professionals to deliver health education sessions.  Coordinate scheduling, session topics  and learning objectives aligned with company health priorities.  Collects feedback and measures effectiveness of health education initiatives.
  • Assists in the development  and administration of the annual budget with knowledge of associate and facility needs, to include equipment and supplies. Responsible for ordering all supplies and equipment needed.
  • Contributes to the design of health controls and surveillance relative to actual and potential hazardous conditions in the workplace. Provides occupational health surveillance testing as needed, coordinates on site AED/CPR training. Conducts workplace evaluations/ergonomics assessments.
  • Keeps all licenses necessary to operate the facility up-to-date.
  • Establishes and promotes good working relationships with appropriate community agencies and other corporations with occupational health nurses.
  • Maintains required medical records in a confidential manner in accordance with federal and state regulations; prepares reports and statistics as required by management.
  • Acts as an advisor to management to ensure compliance with federal, state and other regulatory agencies and corporate guidelines.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development and continuing education to ensure competency and performance consistent with professional Occupational Health Nursing standards. Remains abreast of technical and professional changes in occupational health.
  • Maintains ongoing professional development and continuing education to ensure competency aligns with occupational nursing industry standards. Remains abreast of industry advancements, best practices, and regulatory updates within the occupational health field. 
  • Maintains compliance with applicable federal and state laws (e.g., HIPAA) related to privacy, security, confidentiality and protection of personal information, including, but not limited to, personal health information and personally identifiable information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree In Nursing. – Required
  • Proven experience in emergency room, critical care, or public health. - Required
  • Demonstrated experience as an occupational health nurse with thorough knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements relating to enacting, administering and enforcing standards to provide for workplace health and safety - Preferred
  • Proven experience handling multiple duties and completing assigned tasks accurately and on a timely basis. Must cite examples of proven ability to work independently to schedule and initiate reviews and work with associates, providers and benefits staff. - Required
  • Proven working knowledge of workers' compensation, ergonomics and principles of preventive health care. - Required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the state article that protects, promotes and preserves the public health, safety and welfare through legislative regulation and control of registered professional nursing education and practice. - Required
  • Proven strong knowledge of medical technology, health care resources and contemporary trends in the health care delivery system. - Required
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to successfully interpret and communicate with all levels of administration, health care providers and members in a clear, accurate, focused and concise manner. - Required
  • Demonstrated ability to document procedures and activities in a manner that is understandable to others and prepared using a prescribed format. Verbal and written communications are to conform to proper rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style. Expected to provide examples of written work such as correspondence, reports, etc. - Required
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail with excellent organization skills. Must cite examples of organization and time management/methods used to manage or prioritize workload demands. - Required
  • Proven excellent presentation skills with experience conveying information in a clear, accurate, focused and concise manner. Demonstrated use of strong listening and communication techniques and presentation software. - Required
  • Complete discretion in handling confidential and sensitive materials. - Required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products. - Required
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Practice as a registered nurse in state of Ohio. Upon Hire - Required


Work Setting/Position Demands:

  • Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
  • Requires the ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information with customers and associates on a regular basis.
  • Requires visual acuity to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, procedures, reports and forms via paper and electronic documents, visual inspection involving small defects; small parts, and/or operation of machinery (including inspection); using measurement devices continuously. Visual acuity is required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Requires the ability to prepare written correspondence, reports and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style on a regular basis.
  • Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Performs substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers for continuous computer work.
  • Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects/events.
  • Occasional after-hours work needed.
