Responsibilities

• Manage the surgical environment by serving as the primary advocate for the patient’s safety and nursing care needs before, during, and after the procedure.
• Lead the surgical field by expertly selecting and handling the specialized instruments required for complex procedures, ensuring the surgeon has exactly what is needed at every step.
• Directly assist with surgical tasks by providing wound exposure, suturing, and hemostasis, acting as a critical second set of hands to ensure a successful clinical outcome.
• Coordinate the theater of care by preparing the operating suite and specialized equipment, ensuring every tool is sterile, functional, and ready for life-saving work.
• Monitor patient stability by vigilantly tracking clinical conditions and communicating vital updates to the surgical team in real-time to prevent complications.
  
  

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (GN) obtained prior to start date or job transfer date is required-OR-Temporary or Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in the state of Texas is required or must be obtained prior to hire or job transfer date-OR current home state license for multi-state license recognition through the Nurse Licensure Compact is required or must be obtained prior to hire or job transfer date.
• One or more of the following required:
• Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  

Education

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.
  
  

Additional Preferences

• PERI-OP 101 class completed.
• 1+ years of cardiovascular operating room experience.
