Area 6 Volunteers needed
Good afternoon everyone,
I hope this writing finds you all well! Thank you to those of you continuing to renew your PLN Area 6 membership! We have gained a few new members which is very positive to see in light of the past years.
I am reaching out today to seek interested candidates to serve on ALL positions on the PLN Area 6 Board. We have a number of members who have sought to relinquish their positions. I want to thank all previous board members for their ongoing support and service to the Area and look forward to your continued mentorship of new volunteers desiring to serve.
So... you may be wondering why the contact for volunteerism...For longstanding members of Area 6, you recognize that we have been unable to support our member's educational needs with program offerings and activities for some time. A variety of reasons exists for that lapse, including decreasing interest in participation at on-site meetings. We know that the COVID situation has hit everyone hard for 2020, and while that is not an excuse, it hampered planning and for our sister Areas 1 and 2 who did have programs scheduled, there was a need to cancel or reschedule those sessions. However, as the NLN Bylaws indicate, lack of member activities for a 3-year period is grounds for the disbandment of the area chapter. I DO NOT want to see this happen, as we have a wealth of expertise to be shared and faculty educational needs to address.
That said, the positions available are as follows:
Chair-Elect
Treasurer
Program Chair
Nominations and Elections
Secretary (Interim held by Ms. Mary Mehok)
If you are interested in serving in any capacity on the board, please let me know, so that we can begin to rebuild the area leadership. These are working positions, meaning there is one leader position but the board in total is responsible for contribution and workload assistance. The board meets monthly for strategic planning and operations. These sessions are held by a conference call for ease at a mutually agreeable time. In order to serve in a board position, you must be an active PLN member in good standing.
As we move into the virtual world with our student's education, so will be the potential initial phase of program development for Area 6. As noted in a previous mailer, please save the date for September 17th to attend social networking get together to introduce the PLN Board, share your expertise and concerns, and kick off a new year to come.
Any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time. I will also post updated position documents for consideration.
I wish you all stay well, and have a great summer before the new academic year starts all too soon!
Best,
Wendy
