Georgia DPH resumes Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine administration following CDC and FDA guidance

April 27, 2021- The Georgia Department of Public Health announced on April 23rd that it will resume administration of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, following the lead from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA announced that upon reassessment of the data, the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine potential to promote blood clotting is low. “Agencies Underscore Confidence in Vaccine’s Safety and Effectiveness Following Data Assessment; Available Data Suggest Potential Blood Clots Are Very Rare Events.”

On April 13th, DPH paused administration of the vaccine in Georgia because of reports of severe blood clot cases on individuals after receiving the vaccine.
