Da' Blues or Depression What's The Difference Women & Depression

Lyons, NJ
New Jersey Integrated Black Nurses Association

Women are nearly twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with depression. Depression can occur at any age. The higher rate of depression in women isn't due to biology alone. Life circumstances and cultural stressors can play a role, too. Sadness is a normal reaction to a loss, disappointment, problems, or other difficult situations. Feeling sad from time to time is just another part of being human. Depression is a mental illness that affects your mood, the way you understand yourself, and the way you understand and relate to things around you. It’s important to recognize the difference and when to seek help.
