Dear NHNA Member,

The purpose of this communication is to provide the percentage of dues retained by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and New Hampshire Nurses Association (NHNA) used for lobbying and therefore not deducible as a business expense for 2024. *If you do not deduct your ANA/NHNA dues as a business expense, you may safely disregard this message.*
Membership dues to ANA and NHNA are not deductible as a charitable contribution for tax purposes, but a portion may be deductible as a business expense. The portion of dues used for lobbying is not deductible as a business expense and changes each year.
In 2024, of your $174 annual dues, 50% was retained by ANA and 50% by NHNA ($87 each). Of this amount:
  • 28.1% of your ANA portion was used for lobbying and is not deductible as a business expense ($24.45)
  • 22.8% of your NHNA portion was used for lobbying and is not deductible as a business expense ($19.84)
If you have questions regarding this information, please consult your tax professional for further guidance.
Respectfully,
Lisa M Hale, MHPA, RN
