From the President

American Nurses Association-Maine

November 2025

Dear ANA-Maine Members,

I’m honored to introduce myself as the new President of the American Nurses Association-Maine (2025–2027). I joined ANA-Maine three years ago at the encouragement of our outgoing president, Dr. Amanda Savage, whose leadership, and mentorship continue to inspire me.

As I look ahead, my focus is clear: how can we best support Maine’s nurses, across every specialty and setting, while elevating the health of Mainers? Nursing is the foundation of healthcare. We spend more time with patients than any other healthcare profession, witnessing both the challenges and triumphs of life and health, and carrying experiences that shape our practice and purpose. Knowledge that must be shared.

As a nurse practitioner, and professor, I’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of education; not only for students, but for the families and communities they serve. However, education doesn’t just happen within academic institutions; it happens over coffee with colleagues, mentorship, and through the courage to share vulnerable losses and celebratory wins- that’s how we grow.

Learning and connection remain at the heart of my vision. I hope to continue growing ANA-Maine into a community-centered organization that celebrates our work and amplifies our collective voice. I also value collaboration and real-time feedback. I invite you to share your ideas, experiences, and perspectives as we move forward together.

In the months ahead, ANA-Maine will:

  • Invite member articles for the monthly newsletter to share stories, research, and upcoming events.
  • Celebrate and educate about the diverse paths within our profession.
  • Create opportunities for collaboration and engagement across our membership both in person and virtually.

Thank you for your trust and dedication. I’m excited to serve alongside you—to listen, learn, and lead with gratitude.

Jill Vaughn APRN-BC, MSN
