Things happen very suddenly and very quickly when the legislature is in session up in Tallahassee.
Last evening after the last update email was sent, we learned exciting news from Sandy Falk from Ft Myers.
The Protection from Surgical Smoke Bill (HB 93) will be heard by the House Health and Human Services Committee tomorrow, Thursday, Feb 26,2026 at 3:30pm.
The meeting will be held in Morris Hall (17 House Office Building, 402 S Monroe St, Tallahassee)
AORN Government Affairs, the FNA Lobbyist and nurses particularly from Hillsborough County and Ft Myers have worked very hard to convince Rep Josie Tomkow to place this bill on her committee's agenda this session. This has been one of the biggest hurdles the last few years.
Any RN, CST, Surgeon or Anesthesia Provider who is available tomorrow afternoon is asked to show up to the hearing to support the bill. The presence of healthcare professionals in the meeting room is critical to show the legislators how important this bill is to our patients and our profession. Both AORN and FCORN are dedicating financial support for some expenses should you be able to get to Tallahassee tomorrow.
Hopefully the senate hearing today and the house hearing tomorrow will be among the last required meetings to discuss this bill before full votes in the Senate and House.
