History of the Fresno-Sierra HPNA Chapter
Chapter History
The Fresno Sierra Chapter began with a discussion of two nurses, Deanne Sayles and Sue Flammang in August of 2011. We identified a need for hospice nurses to get together and share expertise about high quality hospice patient care. Sue strongly encouraged me to keep pursuing forming a chapter and sadly relocated to Oregon in December.
There were two other chapters in California at the time and they were far away from the Fresno location. I was able to pull together a list and letter of inquiry to nurses who were identified as HPNA members, mailed it and the Provisional Group was born. The Chapter has had lots of support from the local hospices who all have nurses who participated in the growth and development of the group.
I am indebted to all of the founding members and Board who attend our meetings and have committed to sustaining and increasing the growth of our Chapter.
